Trapezium Arts, Bradford’s city centre volunteer-run art gallery, is once again responding to lockdown restrictions which have devastated the arts sector. This week, they added a new artist to the online galleries on its website.
Andrew Heathcote is a visual artist. His exhibition of paintings inspired by Yorkshire locations, Emerging from the Depths, is now available to view online. As he explains, this tough period has had a big effect on his work.
“Lockdown has helped me to focus on our lifestyles and what’s really important to me. Our activities have been restricted but there’s still plenty to stimulate the mind and much of it can be found on our doorsteps. Many of the paintings are things I’ve seen on training runs around Thornton and Haworth Moors. And not just the magnificent vistas of the Haworth countryside – it can be a copse of beech trees over a dry-stone wall or the mushrooms and toadstools emerging from the depths of the earth beneath our feet. We just have to look around”.

Pauline Cooke of Trapezium is relishing this opportunity to give local artists much-needed exposure at this difficult time.
“We’re really enjoying being able to show local artists’ work online during this forced period of inactivity. Andrew’s paintings are a wonderful example of an artist finding inspiration for better times ahead from the elements in his local landscape. Hopefully we can open our ‘real’ gallery on Kirkgate in the centre of Bradford as soon as is possible in the New Year and show a selection of the excellent and exciting work we have exhibited online”.
Trapezium Arts’ online galleries show the wonderful and varied creativity in Bradford and the surrounding areas. They’re encouraging artists from Bradford and district to put their work forward.
