Kay Johnstone

Kay Johnstone has been an editor, writer and proofreader for many years, having begun her career as a medical journalist in the UK. Since relocating to South Africa, she has gained wide experience in various areas of publishing and public relations. Most recently, she was chief copyeditor and writer on several consumer magazine titles at a major media house, and wrote a weekly health article for a popular women’s magazine. She is currently vice-chair of the Southern African Freelancers’ Association (Safrea) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

Outside of work, she is deeply committed to animal welfare, and has held various voluntary roles with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), South Africa, including as a director on the board, and as the PRO and fundraiser, a qualified senior inspector, and chair of her local society. As well as spending time with her animals, she enjoys playing Scrabble, tackling crossword puzzles, and listening to music.
