Carmel O'Hagan

Carmel O’Hagan taught MFL in large London comprehensive schools. She ran two successful departments over a period of 11 years and with her teams made ‘languages for all’ a very popular option and reality. She went on to become a LA languages adviser working with primary and secondary schools. She led the secondary team at CILT – the then National Centre for Languages and Research - for many years. Her areas of research focused on MFL for pupils with SEND, intercultural-understanding and cross-phase/s transition in MFL. She led CPD in the UK, in China and in France. She finished her paid career as a PGCE leader and external examiner for PGCE courses. She has lived and worked in several Francophone countries, including Senegal.
