On The Sofa, which started out under the name Sofa Cinema Club, was started by the trio after Jack and Ben realised Colson hadn’t watched many films besides High School Musical and Hannah Montana. Since the podcast began over five years ago, the podcast has evolved and after having previous live shows under the name Sofa Cinema Club, this was their first time going into theatres as On The Sofa.
On The Sofa: a cinema club
The first of two live shows consisted of the lads chatting about what they’ve got up to, with plenty of funny little anecdotes, such as Colson arriving at the show straight from an Otley Run. There were plenty of moments in which the whole audience was laughing out loud. The audience interaction was superb with plenty of opportunities to shout to the trio and give your thoughts on their topic at the time.
The podcast still remains true to how it first started. Talking about films. This show was no different, with the boys choosing to watch The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey. Jack specifically chose this film due to Colson recently appearing in Celebrity Big Brother and finishing third place.
To help describe their thoughts on the film and talk about their favourite scenes they had clips ready on the big screen and it was a great way of explaining how they felt about the film. This is something they have done at previous live shows before.
Live and podcast
The second half of the show was all about having some fun and getting more of the audience involved and finding out where people have travelled to be at the show. During the break everyone had the opportunity to text a number that would inform the lads what they think of the show so far and these would be read aloud.
Their own take on Mr and Mrs was played, Mr and Mr between Ben and Colson was a great segment. What I believe makes this podcast work so well, is the chemistry between them all and how it feels like you are just listening and watching three friends chatting away to each other.
I don’t want to spoil too much on the show on the whole, however I highly recommend listening to the podcast and buying tickets to On The Sofa’s second live show on 18 May at the Bush Theatre, London.
