The Craven Arts House in Skipton, partnered with the Arts Council England, is announcing a captivating new exhibition entitled ‘Feminine Power: From the Divine to the Demonic’. This exhibition draws inspiration from a renowned show hosted by the British Museum and delves into the theme of women’s empowerment through the medium of art.
Capturing the spark of femininity
The creative duo behind the exhibition, Erik and Alexandra Müller, have extended invitations to local artists to collaborate with them, resulting in a stunning array of artwork that beautifully captures the multifaceted nature of femininity.
The duo are cordially inviting the general public to join them for the opening event on Saturday 3 June, running from 5 to 7pm. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the ‘divine and dynamic aspects of femininity’ showcased within the exhibition and the evening will be further enhanced by an enchanting live music performance by Eltje Müller Stewart.
Speaking to Yorkshire Bylines, Erik Müller explains the themes and intentions behind the exhibition:
“Our primary objective is to challenge preconceived notions and ideologies while paying homage to the intricate complexity and diversity embodied by the female form and presence.
“Our artistic practice strives to be dynamic and inclusive, celebrating the diverse experiences encompassed within the realm of family life. Through our art, we aspire to ignite meaningful dialogue and cultivate a more inclusive understanding of parenthood and the multifaceted roles it encompasses.”

Kunsthaus Müller: creativity rooted in the family
As an artistic duo, Erik and Alexandra Müller have cherished a fruitful and creative partnership as husband and wife for over a decade. Their shared passion for art and history has been the driving force behind the nurturing of their art practice.
Alexandra, currently an MA fine arts student, is also pursuing a Doctorate in creative arts with a particular focus on the intersection of motherhood and art practice. Over the course of the past ten years residing in Yorkshire, the couple have found inspiration through extensive travels and dedicated research. These experiences have shaped the creation of their online gallery space, which they refer to as ‘KunstHaus Müller’.

The name KunstHaus Müller not only pays homage to Erik Müller’s German heritage but also represents the fact that their artistic endeavours take place within the confines of the home. It playfully combines the concept of a design house with the physicality of their residence. Müller goes on to tell Yorkshire Bylines:
“By involving our children in our creative journey and granting them the freedom to explore their own artistic expression, we equip them with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of the world. We encourage them to pose thought-provoking questions and seek answers to the challenges they encounter.
“Our approach to art is deeply intertwined with our roles as parents, with family serving as the cornerstone of our creative process. Our children have actively participated in the creation of some of our works, offering insightful critiques driven by their childhood innocence. We firmly believe in challenging traditional perspectives of parenthood and dismantling gender roles, emphasizing that both men and women can strike a harmonious balance between their roles as parents and artists.”
The exhibition opens at 5pm on Saturday 3 June at The Craven Arts House, 55 Otley Street, Skipton. For further information visit kunsthaus-mueller.co.uk
